FKF Appoint Acting CEO Amid Ongoing Harold Ndege Legal Saga
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has officially announced the appointment of Dennis Gicheru as the Acting General Secretary and CEO.
FKF announced that Dennis Gicheru, an Advocate of the High Court and the FKF’s Head of Legal Affairs, steps into the role with immediate effect.
However, this leadership change is not a simple administrative shuffle as it occurs in the shadow of a high-stakes legal battle involving the embattled substantive CEO, Harold Ndege.
“We wish to announce that FKF Head of Legal Affairs, Dennis Gicheru, has been appointed Acting General Secretary/CEO pending the advertisement and substantive filling of the position. The appointment takes effect immediately,” FKF said in a statement.
Harold Ndege Saga: A Federation Divided
The appointment of Gicheru comes while Harold Ndege remains technically in office, albeit under siege. The wrangles began in late 2025 when FKF President Hussein Mohammed levelled 21 allegations against Harold Ndege, including gross misconduct, poor governance, and a failure to communicate critical parliamentary summons.
The rift deepened in January 2026 when Harold Ndege moved to the Employment and Labour Relations Court, successfully obtaining orders to freeze his ouster.
Harold Ndege has characterised the move as "unprofessional," while the President has maintained that the federation requires a complete "reform agenda" to weed out mediocrity.
Despite a court order issued on January 9, 2026, which barred the FKF from discussing or implementing Harold Ndege’s removal, the federation has proceeded with Gicheru’s appointment.
The saga took a bizarre turn in late January when Harold Ndege’s legal team challenged an affidavit sworn by President Mohammed, alleging the document was a nullity because the President was in Morocco at the time it was purportedly commissioned in Kenya.
As of today, February 6, the court is still reviewing these procedural disputes, leaving the federation in a state of two CEOs, one legal and one acting.
Dennis Gicheru’s Mandate for Stability
In the midst of this boardroom war, Dennis Gicheru has been tasked with maintaining the federation's day-to-day operations.
As a former footballer who played for Wazito FC and KCB, Gicheru is expected to use his legal expertise to navigate the very litigation that defines his new role.
