Finidi gets message from Remo ahead baptism of fire as Nwankwo Kanu's Enyimba get newcomers in NPFL opener

Former Super Eagles coach Finidi George will face his first major test as an NPFL manager when he takes on defending champions Remo Stars in the season opener. Preview the clash between experience and championship pedigree.

Finidi and his Pride of Rivers will get the chance to kick off the quest for the title against champions Remo Stars next month after the release of matchday one fixtures for next season.

The draws were held in Abuja on Monday after the league AGM, with Rivers United set to open the league journey with a visit to Ikenne to take on the champions.

Last season, Remo pipped Finidi’s Rivers United and will hope to start their quest to win the title with a positive result when both teams clash.

Rivers recently defeated Remo Stars in a preseason friendly and would want to repeat that display when they go head-to-head on the opening weekend of the NPFL 2025/2026 season.

Ahead of that top clash, the Sky Blues have penned a message to Finidi George and his Rivers United, "See you soon," the club posted.

Dethroned champions last season Enugu Rangers host Kun Khalifa, the newly promoted side from Imo State, while Abia Warriors welcome Ahmed Musa and Kano Pillars to Umuahia.

Enyimba take their quest for redemption to Barau FC, another newly promoted side while surprise package from last season Ikorodu City travel to face FA Champions Kwara United.
