Woye Maya, a well-known Ghanaian YouTube star, made the bold plea following Osimhen’s dazzling recent performance for Galatasaray, where he scored a brace, including a stunning late winner, to clinch a 3-2 victory over Samsunspor.

The display silenced doubts about his form and reasserted his status as one of Africa’s most lethal forwards ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

“My question is simple: can he switch his nationality to Ghana? He is currently one of the best strikers in the world, and it’s unbelievable he won’t be playing at the World Cup,” Woye Maya said in a viral post.

The post sparked a heated back-and-forth across social media, with many fans responding in jest or defiance:

“If you ask nicely (and agree to take back all your previous low-blow banters), we just might consider sending him to Ghana on loan for the WC,” one Nigerian stated.

“Yeah, we’ll consider him—he should just switch already,” a Ghanaian said before another added defiantly; “Nobody cares about him though. He’s not good enough and that’s why he couldn’t qualify his country to the World Cup.”

“The best are going to play in the World Cup. Mid player sei.”

Osimhen’s late winner capped a thrilling match where Galatasaray took an early lead through Leroy Sane, doubled it via Osimhen’s clinical finish, then survived a late Samsunspor fightback.

With this performance, Osimhen looks ready to lead Nigeria’s front line at the continental level, if he stays true to the Super Eagles.

But the provocative Ghanaian suggestion has intensified the historic football rivalry between the two nations and added fresh fuel to an already passionate debate ahead of world football’s biggest stage.
