Former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George has declared that Ipswich Town will survive relegation despite their struggles.
Ipswich Town's weekend trip to the City Ground ended in disappointment as they fell 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. Chris Wood's second-half penalty secured the win for the home side, leaving Ipswich fans frustrated despite their team's promising first-half showing.
The Tractor Boys came close to taking the lead on two occasions. A header from Cameron Burgess in the 23rd minute was brilliantly cleared off the line by Ola Aina, and ten minutes later, Omari Hutchinson forced a crucial save from Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels.
The defeat snapped Ipswich's three-game unbeaten run and leaves them in a precarious position, second from the bottom with just nine points from 13 games.
Despite the defeat, former Ipswich Town star Finidi George remains optimistic about the club's chances of Premier League survival.
George, who scored eight goals in his 46 appearances for the club between 2001 and 2003.
"It's been a tough season for them, which is no surprise given how competitive and difficult the Premier League is. Let's not forget, they're just coming back to the top flight after spending several years in the Championship, so some struggles were always likely.
"It's still early in the season. There's plenty of time left, and they can't afford to give up now. I'm hopeful they'll fight their way to survival," he told SportsBoom
Finidi George's time at Ipswich Town left a lasting impression on the club's history. Signed for £3.1 million from RCD Mallorca, his goals and performances during his two-year spell are fondly remembered by fans.
