Ex-Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr hails Peseiro's Tactical brilliance in win over Ivory Coast

Rohr has praised the Super Eagles players and coaching staff for a well-deserved victory in the decisive AFCON 2023 Group A game against tournament hosts Ivory Coast.

Nigeria defeated Ivory Coast 1-0 thanks to a well-taken penalty by captain William Troost-Ekong. 

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro made a tactical switch from 4-3-3 to 3-4-3 and 5-4-1 while defending, a system that completely neutralized the Ivorian attack.

“It’s a very nice victory for the Nigerian team against Ivory Coast who were not in the game at all. 

The organization with the 5-4-1 formation was decisive because we didn’t see the strikers of Ivory Coast at all,” Rohr said 

 “It is a very good result, I am happy for my players. There had been so many criticisms in the past that they answered with this big match, but they have to be careful and humble because, in the last AFCON, they won the three games in the group and got knocked out in the next round. Each match is very important.”

Nigeria will look to seek automatic qualification against Guinea-Bissau in their final group game.
