England and Slovenia played out a goalless encounter at RheinEnergieStadion on Tuesday meaning the co-favourites’ group stage ended in disappointment.
England vs Slovenia
Gareth Southgate dropped Trent Alexander-Arnold after starting the Liverpool right-back in midfield in the Three Lions’ opening group games against Serbia and Denmark, with Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher replacing the criticised Reds full-back.
However, England’s build-up was laboured for the most part against Slovenia, with quality goalscoring chances at a premium.

It was effectively the same in the group’s other game between Denmark and Serbia, where both sides failed to find the back of the net at the Allianz Arena.
The upshot of the goalless games on Tuesday means Group C ends as the lowest-scoring in the group phase, despite Groups E and F yet to play their final matches.
England, Denmark and Slovenia netted two goals while Serbia notched one, seeing seven notched in 12 matches altogether. By contrast, 17 goals were scored in Group A, 14 in Group B and 15 in Group C.
Groups E and F have one round of games to go but the former has already witnessed nine goals and the latter has seen 12 heading into Wednesday's fixtures.

Several supporters complained about the boring nature of England’s humdrum showings, culminating with a goalless game at in their final match in Group C.
English broadcaster and media personality Piers Morgan criticised the lack of pace in the side, which is an antithesis of the players at their clubs.
England’s problem is the pace of our play. Just way too slow.

It’s so bizarre given the speed, drive & fluency the same players exhibit for their clubs.
One X (formerly Twitter) user — @_SakaSZN — wonders how a forward line that had goals in them throughout the 2023-24 season has struggled for fluency at Euro 2024.
How has Southgate ruined England’s front 4 who got 165 G/A last season.
