English Premier League Star Backs Uganda to Deliver ‘Beautiful’ AFCON 2027
Following Uganda’s elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, attention has shifted to the 2027 tournament which will be staged in East Africa.
Uganda, alongside neighbours Kenya and Tanzania, will co-host AFCON 2027 and the bar has been raised by the last two hosts Ivory Coast (2023) and Morocco (2025).
With great infrastructure that includes beautiful stadiums, pristine training pitches, good hotels and an efficient transport system, East Africa has its work cut out next year and Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has explained what Uganda in particular must do to stage a successful tournament.
“Like Morocco, Uganda just have to be welcoming,” Iwobi told Ugandan journalist Clive Kyazze in Morocco. “Morocco has treated us really nice, the hotel is really nice, the pitch, the facilities have been good.”

The Fulham star, however, has great faith in Uganda, tipping them to get everything in order on time for a great AFCON 2027 campaign.
“Uganda, credit to them they gave us a tough game, and I am sure they have the capabilities and facilities to make sure that AFCON will be beautiful,” added the Super Eagles midfielder.
Uganda exited AFCON 2025 after losing 3-1 to Nigeria in their final group stage game, having started their campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Tunisia, before a 1-1 draw with Tanzania, a game they should have won had Allan Okello not missed a late penalty.
The Cranes will now turn their focus on a better 2027 campaign when the country will also be welcoming thousands of visitors.
