The five-time Olympic champion’s historic career has been underlined by a resilient battle against chronic Achilles tendon injuries.

The struggle reached a heartbreaking peak in 2024 when an Achilles tear sustained in New York forced her to withdraw from the Jamaican trials, costing her the chance to defend her sprint titles at the Paris Olympics.

Following a sidelined 2025 season, where she missed the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, she has recently reunited with her former coach to begin a gruelling rehabilitation process for a 2026 comeback.

Elaine Thompson-Herah: Thank You For Hanging in There

In the post, Elaine Thompson-Herah encouraged herself to take a moment to recognise and value the progress she had made over the years, acknowledging the perseverance and determination she had shown even during the most challenging periods.

The Jamaican sprint queen expressed gratitude for her ability to navigate life’s difficulties with courage and to keep moving forward despite setbacks, emphasising the strength she had displayed in facing her own struggles and learning important lessons along the way.

She also admitted regret for the moments when she had doubted her own instincts or pushed herself too hard without listening to her body’s need for rest and recuperation.

Elaine Thompson-Herah vowed to treat herself with greater compassion in the future, promising to allow herself grace, acknowledge her efforts, and remember that she was doing the best she could in every situation.

“Dear Self, take a moment to pause and appreciate how far you have come. Thank you for hanging in there, despite the tough times, and for navigating life’s ups and downs with courage. I honour the battles you’ve fought, the lessons you’ve learned, and the resilience you’ve shown, even when you felt like crumbling,” she wrote.

“I am sorry for the times I didn’t have enough faith in your intuition, or when I overworked you and didn’t listen to your need for rest. I promise to be kinder to you, to give you grace, and to remember that you are doing your best.”

Elaine Thompson-Herah expressed her deep appreciation for herself, acknowledging all of her qualities, her flaws, her strengths, and the uniqueness of her character.

She reflected on her resilience and the hope she had maintained for a brighter future, even when circumstances were uncertain or the direction ahead seemed unclear.

She encouraged herself to continue moving forward with confidence and authenticity, to keep radiating her inner light even during difficult times, and to trust in the unfolding of her own journey rather than measuring herself against others.

“Thank you for being you, with all your imperfections, strengths, and unique, beautiful spirit. I am proud of your ability to keep hoping for a better tomorrow, even when the path seemed unclear,” she added.

“As you move forward, I urge you to: Keep shining, even when things feel heavy. Trust the process and your own journey, without comparing it to others. Prioritise your own happiness and peace. You are enough, just as you are, and the best is yet to come. With love and gratitude. Me, Elaine.”
