Faith Kipyegon Names Two Unsung Heroes Who Have Turned Her Into Record-Breaking Machine
Faith Kipyegon has always been open about the challenges that come with motherhood but she is thankful that she has a strong support system around her.
Kipyegon’s world changed for the better when she welcomed her daughter Alyn in June 2018 but while she managed to comeback to competition strongly, she struggled to cope with being far from her during the initial stages.
The three-time Olympics champion has to be in camp for six days a week and only gets to spend time with Alyn on Sundays and when she is out of the country for competition, it becomes even more difficult.
However, the 31-year-old has credited her husband and nanny for taking away her worries by caring for Alyn, allowing her to fully focus on running and the results have been incredible.
Kipyegon Pays Tribute to Nanny and Husband
Since becoming a mother, Kipyegon has won two Olympics gold medals and four world titles while setting world records in the mile, 1,500m and 5,000m, thanks to having ample time in the training camp and not having to think a lot about her now seven-year-old daughter.
“It is very tough, especially when your junior is starting school and you have to be there for school homework and everything,” she told NTV.
“But I would say it is because of people around you. People around me are really supporting me like I have a nanny who takes care of her when I am away and also my husband takes care of my daughter.”
Olympics Champions Thankful for Technology
For Kipyegon, her management has also provided a conducive environment and she is thankful for technology for making communication now easy.
“Even management, they are like; ‘we take care of this and you do this.’ I am glad that I have handled things in an easy way where when I have time, I stay with her but when I am outside the country, I call by video call,” she added.
“Now she understands what I do, she is seven years, and can tell me what she needs to tell me and I can handle. She knows I am a pro athlete but when she was younger, it was challenging asking me a lot of questions.”
Kipyegon is married to Timothy Kitum, the 2012 Olympic 800m bronze medallist.
