President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded the Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.

The special event, held at the New Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was attended by top dignitaries and sports stakeholders.

The players and coaching staff were warmly welcomed by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, with support from Nana Shettima, the Wife of the Vice President.

President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, hailed the team as “worthy ambassadors of Nigeria,” praising their unwavering determination and excellence on the continental stage.

Hefty rewards for D’Tigress

The President announced a series of rewards for the team, $100,000 each for all D’Tigress players, $50,000 each for the head coach and technical staff.

Also, National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) for players, officials and One flat each for players and technical staff.

D’Tigress clinched their fifth straight AfroBasket title in Abidjan, defeating Mali 78–64 in the final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Côte d’Ivoire.

The event follows a similar state reception last week for the Super Falcons, who were honoured after winning their tenth WAFCON title in Rabat, Morocco.
