D'Tigress: Nigeria dominates Egypt 83-65 in 2nd Afrobasket group game
Nigeria's senior women's basketball team known as D'Tigress continues to stack up wins at the 2023 Women's Afrobasketball Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.
On Sunday, July 30, Nigeria's D'Tigress recorded an 83-65 win against a tough Egypt side at the BK Arena.
It was an important game for D'Tigress after their opening group victory against the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
D'Tigress defeated Egypt in 2nd group game
DTigress, playing in green, dominated their opponents 10-18 to establish an eight-point lead at the halftime break.
In the second quarter, D'Tigress new head coach, Rena Wakama, got the offense going as they put up 24 points to Egypt's 13 and increased their lead to 19 going to the halftime break.
Egypt did not retreat, as they started the third quarter well to eventually take it by a 19-14 margin, cutting the deficit to 14.
The fourth quarter was back and forth between the two sides, but D'Tigress were able to hold on for a much-needed win.
Their second win in the group stage means D'Tigress will now progress to the knockout stages.
D’Tigress stars against Egypt
Amy Okonkwo was the star for D'Tigress in the victory featuring for 35 minutes.
She put up a double-double of 29 points and 13 rebounds to go with four assists.
She made eight of her 16 shots, was 6 of 10 from the field, and two of six from three-point range.

Murjanatu Musa was also important in the victory as she put up 18 points and seven rebounds shooting eight of 13 from the field.
Nicole Enabosi was also effective off the bench in 20 minutes, contributing 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
