Thomas Tuchel's side were already trailing by 10 points, and following another comeback victory for Die Werkself against Hoffenheim earlier in the day that took the difference to 13, the Bavarians needed to win Der Klassiker to keep pace.

Dortmund ended a five-year winless run against Bayern Munich in the league with a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Karim Adeyemi and Julian Ryerson.

How it happened

Dortmund seized control early, with Julian Brandt's precision pass setting up Karim Adeyemi for a swift opener. The match remained fiercely contested, with Bayern's Harry Kane missing a rare opportunity, while Dortmund's defense, led by Mats Hummels, stood firm against Bayern's onslaught.

As the first half concluded with Dortmund holding the lead, the visitors showcased resilience reminiscent of past encounters. Felix Nmecha's chance nearly sealed the victory, but Bayern's stand-in goalkeeper, Sven Ulreich, held firm. Hummels continued to impress, both defensively and offensively, epitomsiing Dortmund's determination.

In the final minutes, substitute Sébastien Haller played a crucial role, assisting Julian Ryerson's goal to secure Dortmund's fourth consecutive league victory. Despite a late scare with a disallowed goal, Dortmund celebrated a historic win, bolstering their UEFA Champions League qualification hopes.
