Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is returning to the ring against a boxing journeyman to save his career.

The announcement that Wilder will face 11-loss Curtis Harper in Los Angeles in April is being prepared by broadcaster BLK Prime.

For the powerful American, it's a huge drop-off after bouts with Tyson Fury, Joseph Parker, and Zhilei Zhang.

Wilder's hopes of winning the world championship again are definitely off the table against Harper.

Although Wilder has possibilities at both cruiserweight and bridgerweight heavyweight dominance came to an end with the knock out loss to Zhilei Zhang.

Wilder returns against Harper but he turns 40 this year and time is running out.

Parker crushed the last traces of any doubts that Wilder was a championship force, just over a year after he defeated Robert Helenius in a thrilling match.
