Cyclists set for medals as cycling begin at the National Sports Festival with 17 events

Cycling events at the 2024 National Sports Festival are scheduled to kick off on Tuesday in Abeokuta.

The stage is set for intense competition following a crucial pre-race meeting held on Monday, bringing together technical officials and coaches representing various states at the Games' Local Organising Committee (LOC) secretariat.

The Technical Director of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN), Bashir Mohammed, provided a comprehensive overview of the cycling schedule and regulations during the meeting.

He announced that a total of 17 events across different disciplines will be contested over nine days, promising a packed and exciting segment of the National Sports Festival.

"We are thrilled to finally get the cycling events underway," stated Bashir Mohammed.

He added, "We have a diverse range of competitions planned, showcasing the talent and dedication of cyclists from across the nation. Tomorrow marks the beginning with three key events."

The opening day of cycling action will feature the dynamic mixed relay event in the morning, offering a fast-paced and strategic team competition.

As the day progresses into the evening, the focus will shift to individual and team endurance, with the 3km Team Pursuit for women and the 4km Team Pursuit for men taking centre stage.

"The Mixed Relay will provide an exciting start to the cycling program, while the evening's Team Pursuit events are always a spectacle of speed and teamwork," Mohammed elaborated.

The cycling events are expected to draw attention from sports enthusiasts and local spectators in Abeokuta, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the ongoing National Sports Festival.
