Chukwueze's form forces AC Milan boss to contemplate changing Pulisic's position
As AC Milan faces a midfield crisis with Ruben Loftus-Cheek suspended and with Samuel Chukwueze on form, Stefano Pioli is considering shifting Christian Pulisic into a surprising new role for the upcoming match against Lecce.
The USMNT star could take on an unfamiliar position in the team's lineup, a move that has been under evaluation, aiming to optimise the squad's performance given the circumstances.
The Strategic Decision
With Ruben Loftus-Cheek's absence and a shortage of attacking midfielders on the bench, AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli is exploring creative options to address the team's tactical dilemma.
One of the potential solutions being considered is deploying three central midfielders; however, an alternative approach on Pioli's radar involves relocating Christian Pulisic to a different role within the team.
Pioli's Evaluation and Plan of Action
Pioli had previously contemplated the idea of utilising Pulisic as a hole player in the midfield during January, though the plan never came to fruition.
Given the current circumstances, Pioli might be inclined to implement this strategic adjustment, positioning Pulisic as an attacking midfielder in the absence of Loftus-Cheek.
This tactical reshuffle would see Nigeria's Samuel Chukwueze taking up the right flank while Pulisic spearheads the team's offensive maneuvers.
“It’s a solution we are evaluating,” said Pioli about Pulisic playing as an attacking midfielder, per Goal.
“I am delighted with Chukwu. My collaborators showed him some videos today, and the stats we collected in the last three games are even superior to those from his time at Villarreal. He is fit, physically and mentally, he must continue like this. He has important characteristics for the attack.”
