Chuba Akpom on the move again as Lille eye Ajax striker

Super Eagles-eligible striker Chuba Akpom, who only just joined Ajax in the summer, has emerged as a potential target for Lille as they look to address their need for additional firepower in the January transfer window.

Canadian forward Jonathan David currently stands as the sole striker for Lille, but he has been facing challenges in front of goal this season.

The 23-year-old has only found the back of the net seven times in 23 appearances this season, including five goals in 17 Ligue 1 matches, and the club is exploring options to reinforce their attacking lineup.

On the other hand, Akpom, who moved to the Netherlands this summer after scoring 29 goals in 42 appearances last season, experienced a slow start to his Eredivisie journey with Ajax but gradually found his rhythm, impressively scoring eight goals in the team's last 12 games.

Lille's reported interest in Akpom suggests a potential loan deal to secure the striker's services, according to Foot Mercato. The club, led by head coach Paulo Fonseca, is eager to address its attacking concerns following a recent defeat against Strasbourg.

Sékou Mara (21), a former Girondins de Bordeaux player currently with Southampton, is also rumoured to be on the radar of the Lille board as they explore options to strengthen their squad.
