From Chelsea flop to Liverpool legend: Mo Salah's impossible rise stuns Arsenal icon

Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been left surprised by what Mohamed Salah has achieved at Premier League rivals Liverpool. 

Fabregas has reflected on their time together at Stamford Bridge, with the Spaniard admitting he would have called it ‘impossible’ if he had been told the Egyptian would reach his current heights when they were together.

When Salah first arrived at Anfield from the Italian side, AS Roma, in 2017, few could have predicted the former Blue would become one of the deadliest forwards in the world.

The 31-year-old managed just two goals in 19 Premier League matches during his time at Chelsea, leading many to doubt if he could succeed in the top flight.

However, Salah has stunned critics and exceeded all expectations at Liverpool, scoring a remarkable 153 goals in 251 matches in the Premier League, with 67 assists.

He has won the league title, the Golden Boot three times, and also led the Reds to Champions League glory.

One of those who have been shocked by Salah’s rise to the top is his former teammate at Chelsea, Fabregas.

According to the former Arsenal star, the Egyptian’s meteoric rise has been nothing short of ‘impossible’ as he was not known to be a prolific scorer.

“He was not so prolific in front of goal,” Fabregas said according to a BBC report.

“Maybe it was a lack of chances, you could see his trends. You could see he was quick, that he was attacking spaces. But then when he had one against ones, maybe he was not as strong as he is now,” he added.

Salah, who was signed by Jose Mourinho in 2014, struggled to break into the team before he was sent out on loan to Fiorentina and then Roma, who signed him permanently in 2016.

He is currently on international duty with Egypt in Cote d’Ivoire as he looks to end his wait for a first-ever AFCON crown.
