Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has dismissed speculation linking Enzo Fernandez with a move to Real Madrid, insisting the Argentine midfielder will stay and could be even better next season.
After a slow start to the campaign where he struggled to secure a regular starting spot, Fernandez has become one of Maresca’s key players. The 24-year-old has contributed seven goals and 13 assists across all competitions, forming a strong midfield partnership with Moises Caicedo.
Despite reports of interest from Real Madrid, where incoming manager Xabi Alonso is looking to revamp his midfield, Fernandez remains under contract with Chelsea until 2030.
“Enzo is a main player for us, one of the captains, one of the leaders,” Maresca said when asked about the rumors.
“This season he has been very, very good. He can be even better next season, starting from the first day. So, nothing to say about speculation. He is focused on us and that’s the most important thing.”
When pressed on whether Fernandez would stay at Stamford Bridge this summer, Maresca was clear: “Yes.”
The Blues now turn their focus to a key league match against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, followed by the Conference League final against Real Betis next week.
