He is famous for many things, including some standout moments and the occasional controversial quote, but most importantly, he has found new ways to adapt to the tactical trends, year after year.

In a recent interview with Canal 11, Mourinho made some comments on the evolving landscape of football tactics.

His remarks, which have gone viral on social media, highlight his frustration with managers who attempt to replicate successful strategies without the necessary resources, particularly taking a thinly veiled swipe at Pep Guardiola’s approach at Manchester City.

“I think the problem is when people want to make a copy and paste without having the conditions for it.”

Mourinho stated, emphasizing the importance of tailoring tactics to a team’s capabilities.

He argued that simply replicating a system, such as using a full-back to play inside or building from the back with a goalkeeper, requires players with the right skills and adaptability.

“If a full-back is weak on attack, I like to say that he shouldn’t attack from the inside or from the outside. He should stay back and build alongside the centre-backs,” he explained.

He highlighted Guardiola's endless resources at City, pointing to the Spaniard's ability to sign two goalkeepers in quick succession when he arrived in 2016.

“If you want to copy-paste the ideas of a coach who can buy, and buy, and buy, it will be complicated.”

Mourinho’s frustration is valid, as the past few years have witnessed a trend of managers trying to emulate Guardiola’s success. Most notably, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who practically set up his side to mirror his former boss.
