Days after his dramatic downfall at Augusta, where Rory McIlroy clinched the elusive career Grand Slam, Bryson DeChambeau has enjoyed a significant boost in his social media following.

Prior to the 2025 Masters, the outspoken LIV Golf figure boasted a respectable 2.5 million Instagram followers

However, after underwhelming at Augusta, that figure stands at a staggering 2.7 million, and it’s still climbing.

That’s 200,000 new followers in just five days, as per Social Blade, a spike that even some marketing teams would envy.

The irony is that the surge in Dechambeau’s following comes not on the back of a trophy lift, but a crushing defeat and a headline-grabbing post-match gripe.

DeChambeau claimed that McIlroy, who ultimately triumphed in a tense playoff against Justin Rose, refused to speak to him throughout the final round.

"Didn’t talk to me once all day,” the LIV Golf star told reporters.

“He wouldn’t talk to me.”

McIlroy, now the proud owner of a career Grand Slam and a green jacket that was ten years in the making, wasted no time in addressing the speculation

In his usual composed manner, the Northern Irishman dismissed the noise.

“My battle was with myself. It wasn’t with anyone else,” McIlroy stated firmly during his post-tournament press conference.

“Trying to stay in the present moment… that’s where all my energy went.”

Even with Justin Rose pushing him into a sudden-death playoff, Rory remained cool under pressure, birdieing the 18th to seal the historic win.

He may have lost the Masters, but Bryson DeChambeau has gained something else entirely: cultural capital. And in today's game, that might just be worth its weight in green jackets.
