Developments have been made in the case of murdered Ugandan athlete Benjamin Kiplagat, with police making arrests allegedly linked to the unfortunate slaying

Benjamin Kiplagat, a distinguished Ugandan steeplechase athlete, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in his brother's car near Kimumu Secondary School on the outskirts of Eldoret, Kenya.

Kiplagat, aged 34, had a celebrated career, representing Uganda in three Olympic Games and six World Championships in the 3000m steeplechase, as per reports from The Kenya Times

According to Omwambe on X, two suspects have been apprehended in connection with Kiplagat's murder. The arrests, as confirmed by Moiben Sub-County Police Commander Stephen Okal, included a suspect from Uasin Gishu County and another from Trans Nzoia County.

A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from one of the suspects. The suspects were known for prior criminal activities.

Circumstances of the Murder

The murder is suspected to have occurred when Kiplagat, driving a black Toyota Hilux, was stopped by a motorcycle that blocked his path. After he knocked down the motorcycle, the riders are believed to have committed the crime and fled, leaving their motorcycle behind.

Kiplagat's Athletic Legacy

Kiplagat was renowned for his long-distance running prowess. Initially competing in the 10,000 metres, he later shifted to the 1500 metres and 5000 metres before specialising in the steeplechase.

His personal best was 8:03.81, recorded at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne in 2010. He ranked 38th overall in the Men’s 3000-meter steeplechase in the World Athletics Rankings.
