Belgian player accidentally kills a cyclist in a fatal road collision

The event reportedly had a major impact on the midfield player, who is currently on loan from Monaco.

The police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, leading to the death of a cyclist.

Matazo was issued an alcohol and saliva test, which the police had given him and the test came back negative.

According to reports from the Sun, It's thought that the 85-year-old biker ran a red light, and Matazo was unable to stop the collision.

A statement from Antwerp read, "This morning Eliot Matazo was involved in a serious traffic accident with a cyclist. 

"As is usual in these types of accidents, Eliot was given a saliva and alcohol test and both were negative. There are also no indications that there was excessive speed.

"Without wishing to prejudge the investigation into the accident, all elements, including the statements of witnesses, point to an unfortunate accident.

"Eliot is extremely affected by the events and neither player nor club will make any further statements until the investigation is completed.

"Our thoughts go out to the cyclist and his family, and Eliot and the club hope for a happy outcome."

Based on preliminary investigations, it's possible that the biker ran a red light due to sun blindness.
