Barcelona start talks for Eagles star
Barcelona have reportedly begun informal talks with the representatives of Crystal Palace right-back Daniel Munoz, as they are keen on strengthening their right-back options.
The 29-year-old joined the Eagles in the summer of 2024 and has steadily gone about establishing himself as one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League. For many, he has been the best player in the position this season, following the exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.
The details
Barcelona have Jules Kounde as their only right back this season, after Hector Fort went out on loan to Elche. Eric Garcia was a capable deputy; however, the exit of Inigo Martinez meant the former Manchester City man is more useful in central defence.
Hence, the Blaugrana are in search of a right back, and according to ESPN’s Julian Capera, they have earmarked Palace’s Munoz, who has one goal and two assists this season in the Premier League.
Per the report, sporting director Deco has already contacted the player's entourage to discuss his availability. Transfermarkt pegs his market value at €25 million, but the Eagles will be expected to demand more, especially if Barcelona want him this January.
Munoz has a contract until 2028, with Palace retaining the right to extend the deal until 2029. They have the leverage, and their transfer habit suggests they will not sell him while the season is ongoing, seeing how averse they were to releasing Marc Guehi without a replacement.
