Atletico Madrid vs Espanyol: Lookman scores first LALIGA goal as Rojiblancos rout Catalan rivals
Ademola Lookman has now scored in all competitions for Atletico Madrid, securing his first LALIGA win for Rojiblancos in the 4-2 victory against Espanyol at Wanda Metropolitano.
Lookman scored the third goal of the game, but Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth was the star of the show, scoring a brace to secure victory, which took Diego Simeone's side level on point with third-place Villarreal.
Key match details
Espanyol drew first blood in the 6th minute when Jofre Carreras capitalised on shoddy defending from Atleti to give the visitors an early 1–0 lead and send a surprise message to the home crowd.
Atlético responded with intent. In the 21st minute, Alexander Sørloth brought the hosts level with a powerful left-footed finish from the back post, restoring parity and energising the Metropolitano.
The second half belonged to Atlético Madrid. They took the lead in the 49th minute through Giuliano Simeone, who struck with precision after a slide-rule pass from Alex Baena from inside the area after a sustained period of pressure to make it 2–1.

Ten minutes later, Ademola Lookman extended the advantage with a fine finish, heading from inside the box to make it 3–1 and putting the result increasingly out of reach.
Sortloth extended the result further in the 72nd minute, getting on the end of Matteo Ruggeri’s inswinging cross, delivering the ball into the far post via a thumping header.
Espanyol refused to be entirely out of the contest and pulled one back in the 80th minute through Edu Expósito, who struck from range into the corner to make it 4–2 and set up a frantic finale.
However, Atlético managed the final moments of the match expertly, limiting Los Periquitos' chances to speculative efforts.
