The estranged 21-year-old has already seen his alleged rape and assault charges dropped in February.

However, Greenwood continues to be under internal investigation by the Manchester giants, hence delaying his return to the pitch.

Greenwood, who was initially arrested in January 2022, was expected to join Erik ten Hag's squad after the charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service earlier this year.

Greenwood was arrested last year after he was of physical and sexual abuse on social media, relating to a period between November 2018 and October 2021.

Greenwood expected to be re-instated into United’s first-team squad, but commercial executives are believed to be skeptical over his return with concerns about what it impact it could have on the club's reputation, based on the player’s recent history.

For now, the suspended forward remains banned from training but maintains his £70,000 weekly paycheck.

Greenwood’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in the summer of 2025.
