Super Falcons of Nigeria star Ashleigh Plumptre is in the news again after helping Nigeria win a record 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.
The Nigerian defender featured for 90 minutes as the Super Falcons fought back from two goals down to stun host nation Morocco to clinch the title.
However, what made the rounds on social media were pictures and videos of supposed parents of the British-Nigerian star, which has now drawn widespread controversy online.
The commentator during the WAFCON final had mistakenly tagged a light-skinned woman in the crowd as Plumptre's mum and many netizens ran with that idea.

However, Plumptre herself debunked it, stating categorically that they people in the viral video are not her family members. She clarified that the unknown individuals had come to watch her in 2022 and they made her emotional because they reminded her of her own family but she is not related to them.

Born in Leicester City, Plumptre played for England at youth level but chose to switch her international allegiance to Nigeria.
The decision of Plumptre to play for Nigeria received mixed reactions at first, but now she is a fan favorite.
Some fans are uncertain of her relation to Nigeria however she has made clarifications on several occasions.

The user also posted photos of her paternal grandfather, along with her father and other relatives.
The photos of Plumptre's relatives went viral, and it convinced Nigerian fans that Saudi Pro League star is truly of Yoruba heritage.
Plumptre's paternal grandfather is Harry Dotun Plumptre, while her dad is Tim Rick Plumptre.
Plumptre left Leicester City at the end of the 2023 season, and joined Al-Ittihad where she has been in sensational form.
