Any retroactive payment: Usain Bolt asks for over $300,000 after World Athletics announcement

Track legend Usain Bolt has reacted to World Athletics decision to reward gold medalists at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, worth up to $2.4 billion.

The eight-time Olympic gold medalist has 'asked for retroactive payment' (amount over $300,000) for medals he won during his active years.

World Athletics became the first sports governing body to make a landmark decision to introduce prize money at the Olympics by paying each of their champions in Paris a cash reward of $50,000 across 48 events, including the relays.

Knowing the new development, Bolt responded with a quote to WA's post on X, sarcastically asking for a refund of his gold medals won at the Olympics.

The Jamaican icon is regarded as the greatest sprinter in Olympic history, having won eight gold medals, six of which are in the individual 100m and 200m events at three consecutive games (Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2017), with the remaining two were in the 4x100m relays.

If the athletics governing body were to listen to his request, it means the world's fastest man in history would be over $300,000 richer for his efforts at the Olympics.

Bolt retired after the 2017 world championships in London and ever since, has been involved in several philanthropic, sponsorships, and advertising works while getting himself associated with other sports.
