What Antony said

The former Manchester United star is on a fine run of form for the Heliopolitans with five goals in his last six matches. He is beginning to justify the time, effort and finances Betis expended to acquire him permanently. However, the story could have been different.

Antony said that Bayern Munich called him before the deal with Real Betis was sealed, and he politely rejected the offer, citing his loyalty to the Andalusian side.

“Bayern tried to sign me in the final 24 hours of the summer window,” he said, per Fabrizio. “Kompany called me personally... we spoke, he said he’s always been a big fan of my game... but I gave my word to Betis and I couldn’t betray them. Betis for me means happiness.”

Antony summer transfer Saga

Antony’s move to Real Betis followed a six-month loan that began in January 2025, during which he rediscovered form (scoring nine times in 26 appearances across all competitions) and made clear he preferred life in Seville.

After protracted talks in the summer, Betis completed a permanent transfer on 1 September 2025. Betis paid €22m up front plus €3m in add-ons, with Manchester United retaining 50% of any future profit on a resale.
