The conversations around management styles have become prevalent nowadays, especially regarding Real Madrid and what it takes to succeed there as a coach following the sacking of Xabi Alonso.
Against the backdrop of those conversations, former Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti shared stories of friction he has had. Additionally, he revealed an interesting tip he got from Ronaldo about overworking players.
What Ancelotti said
Speaking in a recent interview, Ancelotti was drawn into the conflict between Vinicius and Alonso, which ultimately resulted in the Spaniard’s termination. He narrated an incident between himself and Toni Kroos and how it was resolved.
“Once I took Kroos out, and he got angry. The next day, I didn’t speak to him,” he said, per MadridXtra. “We ran into each other before going out onto the pitch. I asked him, 'Do we talk about what happened yesterday, or is it over?' And he said, "It’s over.”
Ancelotti shared another anecdote from his first stint at Real Madrid, specifically a quote he got from Ronaldo about overstimulating players.
“Training intensity? I remember a saying by Cristiano: ‘too much water kills the plant’. That stayed with me. I think we need to consider the training, preparation, travel and the games so the players are at maximum energy.”
