Dele-Bashiru speaks ahead of Tunisia clash

Dele-Bashiru shared his thoughts ahead of the Group C fixture against the Carthage Eagles, a match that could see Nigeria book their spot in the knockout stages with one game remaining.

"I think just being in the AFCON by itself is enough motivation for us to go and try and get the victory tomorrow," the Lazio midfielder stated.

"Of course, it’s an important match for us if you want to finish top of the group, so we’ll do everything we can to get the job done."

Beyond securing a place in the next round, the Super Eagles have an old score to settle. A win would serve as revenge for their surprise 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the Round of 16 at the 2021 AFCON.

Dele-Bashiru acknowledged the high stakes of the fixture, noting that every group match is critical in the journey to advance. He also expressed his eagerness to face a disciplined Tunisian side that impressed in their first game.

However, the midfielder stressed that a strong mentality is just as crucial as talent for success in the tournament.

"I’ve said before that it’s important that we take each game the same way with the same focus, with the same respect for the opposition, and train hard, follow what the coach wants from us, which will help us prepare for the matches," Dele-Bashiru added.
