AFCON 2025: Mozambique President promises Mambas 11 million to beat Super Eagles
The President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, announced an extraordinary incentive for the team as they prepare to face Nigeria in the Round of 16 on Monday.
According to the message reported by Mozambique's national daily, Journal Noticia, each player and member of the technical staff will receive a bonus of 500,000 meticais (over 11 million naira) should the Mambas secure a place in the quarterfinals.
What Chapo said
In a message addressed to the players and technical staff, the Head of State praised the Mambas’ positive and determined performance during the group stage, which saw Mozambique advance to the knockout phase of the competition for the first time in the nation’s history.
“We are very proud of you, our valiant compatriots, for your encouraging performance in the group stage of AFCON Morocco 2025, which led to our well-deserved qualification for the Round of 16,” President Chapo said.
He added that the achievement represents a milestone for Mozambican football and a moment of national pride.
“On behalf of the Mozambican people and in my own name, please accept our congratulations for this historic and unprecedented achievement,” the President stated.
“The Mozambican nation is with you, and we have faith that you will prevail in the Round of 16 match,” the Head of State added.
A win over Nigeria would mark Mozambique’s third major accomplishment in a single AFCON tournament: qualification for the finals, progression from the group stage, and a first-ever appearance in the quarterfinals.
