AFCON 2025: ‘I believe nobody is scared’ - Moses Simon defends Super Eagles' narrow win over Tanzania
Nigeria secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Tanzania in their Group C opener at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria initially took the lead in the 36th minute when Semi Ajayi connected with an Alex Iwobi cross to head the ball into the net. However, Tanzania came out strong after the break, with Charles M'Mombwa finding an equaliser.
The Super Eagles responded swiftly two minutes later, with Iwobi once again playing the role of provider, setting up Ademola Lookman, who scored to restore Nigeria's advantage and secure the win.
Simon speaks on Super Eagles’ performance
“Actually, football is not that easy. Not every team at the AFCON will be easy to beat. So, the fans should keep supporting us,” the player stated in a post-match press conference.
He continued, "The team performance was great. When you win, you always say 'Great,' but when you lose, you think about it. The most important thing is the three points."
Simon also dismissed any suggestions of the team feeling overwhelmed by expectations. "We are used to handling the pressure; it is our job, and we know how to handle it best. I believe nobody is scared because we believe we can score more goals."
Looking ahead to their next fixture, he concluded, "The game against Tunisia is not going to be easy. Three points are on the line again... everyone wants to win, and we want to be there."
