AFCON 2025: 6 countries sent packing from Morocco as Super Eagles plot to add Uganda to list
As AFCON 2025 shifts toward its business end, several nations have already seen their continental ambitions come to an abrupt conclusion.
The six teams sent packing from the tournament so far are Botswana, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Comoros.
Botswana were the first to exit after failing to pick up a point in their opening matches, quickly followed by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, who both struggled to find their rhythm in Morocco.
On Monday night, the list grew as Zambia were eliminated following a heavy 3-0 defeat to the hosts, while Zimbabwe and Comoros also dropped out; the latter became the first third-placed team to fall short of the points tally required to stay in the hunt.
Attention now turns to Group C, where all four teams technically remain in contention, although Nigeria has already secured the top spot with a game to spare.
The Super Eagles, who have taken maximum points so far, face Uganda today and will be expected to keep their 100% record.
The Cranes currently sit bottom of the group with one point, trailing Tanzania on goal difference. For Paul Put’s side, nothing less than a historic victory over the three-time champions will keep their knockout hopes alive.
