AC Milan begin sale of Oliver Giroud goalkeeper jersey after impressive performance

AC Milan announced that they are making goalkeeper jerseys available with "Giroud 9" as customisation in commemorating the striker's performance between the sticks in the Rossoneri's victory over Genoa.

Milan beat La Superba 1-0 over the weekend thanks to a late Christian Pulisic strike, keeping them atop the Serie A standings, but it was Olivier Giroud who grabbed the headlines. 

With Pioli having exhausted his maximum allowed substitutions, the France international had to take a place between the sticks when his compatriot, Mike Maignan, was sent off.  

In his short period in goal, the striker made one of the most important interventions in the game, a late double save, to ensure Pulisic's goal remained the winner. 

The plaudits flowed in after the game, and he even made the Serie A team of the week as a goalkeeper. 

The club has joined in on hyping the performance, as they have now announced that fans can buy goalkeeper jerseys and have 'Giroud 9' imprinted on them.

The club did not stop there; they also added the former Chelsea striker as a goalkeeper in the section on their site where the squad is listed according to their position. 

“Last night, Olivier Giroud made AC Milan history by courageously defending the Rossoneri goalposts in the final minutes of the match against Genoa,’’ the club said on their official website. 

“The club has decided to celebrate his performance as a goalkeeper by adding him to the goalkeepers’ section on the squad page.

“Furthermore, from today and for a few days, in AC Milan stores and on the official website, it will be possible to purchase the goalkeeper shirt and personalise it with ‘Giroud 9’.”
