Frustration is beginning to bubble among sections of Arsenal supporters over the recent form of Nigerian-born midfielder Eberechi Eze.

The 27-year-old, who arrived at the Emirates in a big-money summer move, has come under scrutiny following a string of underwhelming displays.

Eze's commitment to Arsenal questioned

In a post circulating on X, a disgruntled supporter reacted to a video of Eze speaking about his Christian faith and desire to be remembered for his belief in Jesus Christ, writing: “70m for Jehovah Witness, Aiit man.”

The remark appeared to question whether the £67.5 million signing from Crystal Palace is overly focused on his faith rather than delivering consistent performances on the pitch.

Eze was substituted at half-time during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Brentford, a match in which pundit Alan Shearer remarked that the midfielder looked “lost” during the opening 45 minutes.

After a bright start to life in North London, the former Crystal Palace star has recently slipped down the pecking order amid stiff competition for attacking midfield roles.

Arteta defends his midfielder

Despite the criticism mounting from all corners, including Gunners’ fans, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta publicly backed Eze.

“Well, I think he had moments, and it’s not easy when you move to a new club,” Arteta said, pointing to Brentford’s physical, high-pressing approach as a complicating factor.

He explained that the half-time change was about tactical “profile,” opting for Martin Odegaard’s specific creative qualities to unlock the opposition.

With Arsenal’s lead at the top trimmed to four points, Arteta’s comments suggest patience remains, even if some fans are growing restless.
