12 Teams set for National Women's Rugby Sevens
The 2023 edition of the National Women's Rugby Sevens will see 12 teams battle it out for who will emerge winner.
This year’s tournament is slated to take place in Asaba, Delta state, between July 15th -16th.
12 women teams from across the country and clubs will be participating in the championship.
Eastern Springbok, RFC of Anambra; Abia State Rugby FC of Abia; Coal City Angeles RFC of Enugu and Heartland Pyramid Rugby team of Imo State will represent the South East.
Lagos will produce three clubs, Nigeria Police Rugby Club, Ikeja; Gosar Rugby Club, Navy Barracks, Apapa and Eco II Rugby Club, Navy Barracks, Apapa.
In North Central, Benue Buffalo Rugby Club Makurdi of Benue State will be flying the flag of the region, while Team Edo Rugby Club will be representing the South-South.
The North-West will be duly represented by Barewar Rugby Club of Kano and Zaria Rugby Club of Kaduna.
Yankari Rugby Club are ready to make a push for the trophy as they will be representing North West.
The tournament was earlier slated for July 1-2 but was later rescheduled due to the national team's engagement in Mauritius.
The championship will be the first championship for women since the national sports festival in Asaba last year.
Nigeria's Women's Rugby team missed out on the Pre-Olympic qualifiers in Zambia because the country just resumed after the World Rugby federation banned the country.
