The Flying Eagles, who have won the African championships in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011, and 2015, advanced to the Cote d'Ivoire finals by winning the WAFU-B U20 Championship in Lome, Togo, in October. In the final, they won 3-1 over Ghana's Black Satellites.
