Oscar Piastri snatched victory from Max Verstappen at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
Oscar Piastri has announced himself as a true championship contender after a commanding win at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
The 24-year-old Australian propelled McLaren to yet another statement performance in what is fast becoming a thrilling 2025 season.
Piastri claimed his third win of the season under the floodlights of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, edging out reigning champion Max Verstappen in a dramatic contest marked by early tension and strategic mastery.
The race burst into life with a fierce duel between polesitter Verstappen and Piastri into Turn One.

Although Piastri initially retained the lead, Verstappen’s move earned him a five-second penalty, served during his pit stop, a decision that ultimately cost the Red Bull driver dearly.
As strategies unfolded, Lando Norris, recovering from a Qualifying crash that left him starting tenth, briefly led the race through a bold hard-tyre stint.
)
However, once he handed over the lead to Piastri, McLaren’s number one on the day never looked back.
Piastri controlled the pace with remarkable maturity, crossing the line 2.8 seconds ahead of Verstappen, while Charles Leclerc secured his first podium of the year with a hard-fought third for Ferrari as his teammate Lewis Hamilton finished P7, behind Mercedes drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli in P5 and P6 respectively.
)
Williams enjoyed a strong double-points finish with Carlos Sainz in P8 and Alex Albon P9, holding off a spirited charge from Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar.
The race wasn’t without its heartbreak.
Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda retired after a chaotic first-lap collision, and Aston Martin's woes continued as Fernando Alonso again left empty-handed.

With five rounds now completed, Piastri finds himself atop the Drivers’ Championship standings, becoming the first Australian to do so since Mark Webber in 2010.
This latest triumph not only cements McLaren’s resurgence but signals a clear shift in the balance of power among Formula One’s elite.
Piastri leads Norris by 10 points, with Verstappen two points further adrift, a scenario few would have predicted at the beginning of the season.
Verstappen appeared annoyed at the penalty as he kept his post-race interview brief, saying as per BBC Sport: "I'm going to keep it quite short. I want to say a big thank you to the fans in Jeddah. It's been a great weekend along the track and the rest is what it is. I'm looking forward to Miami. See you there."
)
Meanwhile, a delighted Piastri said after the win: "Once I got on the inside I wasn't coming out of Turn One in second.
"I tried my best and obviously the stewards had to get involved, but I thought I was far enough and in the end that's what got me the race.
)
"I'm very happy with all the work we've been doing on the starts and that's what won the race for us today."
