McLaren's Lando Norris failed to convert pole to victory as his teammate Oscar Piastri delivered a commanding performance to secure his sixth victory of the season at the Belgian Grand Prix

The triumph, following an 80-minute delay due to torrential rain and shocking visibility, further solidifies Piastri's championship credentials.

The Spa-Francorchamps circuit once again lived up to its notorious reputation, testing the mettle of every driver on the grid.

Weather woes and strategic brilliance

The drama unfolded even before the green flag, with the formation lap being red-flagged due to the severe weather.

Drivers reported near zero visibility, leading to a lengthy stoppage that pushed the start time back by an agonising 80 minutes.

Once the race finally got underway with a rolling start, Piastri wasted no time.

Building on the F1 Sprint earlier in the weekend, he executed a clinical overtake on teammate Lando Norris at Les Combes on the very first lap of green flag running, immediately seizing control.

This decisive move set the tone for the remainder of the race.

As the track rapidly dried, strategic calls on tyre changes became paramount.

Lewis Hamilton, starting from 17th, was an early mover, pitting for slicks on lap 11 and rapidly climbing the order.

This triggered a chain reaction among the leaders, with Piastri, Charles Leclerc, and Max Verstappen following suit a lap later.

Piastri’s ability to manage his medium tyres and maintain a significant lead, even as Norris attempted to close the gap on hards, demonstrated exceptional race craft.

McLaren's internal rivalry continues

While Piastri ultimately crossed the line victorious, his teammate Lando Norris mounted a fierce challenge in the closing stages.

Despite a costly mistake at Turn 10 that lost him two seconds, Norris relentlessly chipped away at Piastri's once-commanding lead.

This intra-team battle for supremacy at McLaren has been a compelling narrative throughout the 2025 season, with both drivers proving to be championship contenders.

However, Piastri's win on Sunday, extends his championship lead over Norris to a crucial 16 points, intensifying their rivalry as the season progresses.

Meanwhile, Norris continues to push his teammate, ensuring that McLaren's dual-pronged attack remains a formidable force in the Constructors' Championship.
