After beating Kamaru Usman twice, UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards will play as a goalkeeper at Soccer Aid

English professional mixed martial artist of Jamaican descent Leon Edwards is to take his talents to football.

Edwards, the UFC welterweight champion, will leave his crown at home this summer to participate in Soccer Aid at Old Trafford.

In between title defenses, the 31-year-old, who competes for both Jamaica and Great Britain in the Octagon, will play for the Soccer Aid World XI at Manchester United's stadium.

He won the title by knocking out Nigerian-American mixed martial arts star Kamaru Usman in the last seconds in August, then defended it in March against the previous champion.

The announcement about his arrival said, "LOOK AT HIM NOW. @UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards joins the Soccer Aid World XI."

Edwards on joining said, "It’s an honour for me to be playing and helping raise money for such a great cause.

"Come and support us – Soccer Aid is a great family day out. Through MMA I have built a great platform and fanbase.

"I hope others will support me in raising money for children and families across the world."

Taking place at the Theater of Dreams, the Soccer Aid game is coming back to England. 

In an annual event that draws a number of A-list sportsmen together to support UNICEF, Soccer Aid World XI will take on England XI. 

Edwards recently teamed up with Olympic great athlete Usain Bolt and makes their addition to Soccer Aid makes the World XI lineup more intriguing.
