Vinicius's contract situation

The Brazil international's current Real Madrid contract runs until June 2027, and Los Blancos have been working on a renewal, with talks reaching an advanced stage in 2025 before stalling.

However, Vinícius’s camp sought a significantly higher package rumoured to be worth €30m-per-year in wages, signing and performance-related bonuses, a figure reportedly similar to Cristiano Ronaldo’s take-home pay during his time at the club.

Despite the gap in valuation, the talks continued until recently. Negotiations have since cooled, and The Athletic reported the reason to be Vinicius’s current stance. He is said to have informed the club he will not sign a new deal while his relationship with head coach Xabi Alonso remains strained.

Vinicius vs Xabi Alonso

The pair clashed visibly after Vinícius was substituted in the recent El Clásico. The forward stormed down the tunnel, accusing Alonso of “always” substituting him. He later issued a public apology that notably omitted naming Alonso.

Alonso has publicly tried to play down the row, saying the matter is “closed” and insisting there is “no Vini case,” but the fresh reports about his contract standoff and refusal to apologise to the Basque tactician suggest otherwise.
