Semenyo’s club career began in London, where he had early trials with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Millwall that proved unsuccessful.

At the age of 15, Semenyo joined Crystal Palace on an eight-week trial, but he was ultimately rejected by the Croydon-based club.

The setback led Semenyo to consider giving up on a future in professional football.

However, former coach Dave Hockaday persuaded him to continue by joining the youth academy programme at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.

That decision reignited Semenyo’s career and brought him back into the spotlight.

His development at the college level drew interest from Birmingham City, Crystal Palace and Bristol City, with Semenyo eventually signing for Bristol City’s academy in 2017.

Semenyo made his professional debut for Bristol City in 2018 before embarking on loan spells to gain experience.

At Bath City, he adapted quickly to senior football, before a standout season at Newport County in League Two highlighted his pace, strength and attacking quality.

A further loan to Sunderland in League One exposed him to a more competitive environment.

On his return, Semenyo became a regular for Bristol City in the Championship, growing into an important member of the squad.

His consistent performances earned him a transfer to AFC Bournemouth in January 2023, marking his arrival in the Premier League.

In his first full season with Bournemouth in the 2023/24 season, Semenyo established himself as a regular attacking option, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 assists across all competitions.

The following campaign in 2024–25 proved to be his most productive to date, as Semenyo reached double figures in front of goal, registering 11 goals and 6 assists, and confirmed his status as one of Bournemouth’s most important attacking players.

On 1 July 2025, Semenyo reaffirmed his commitment to Bournemouth by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2030.

Less than six weeks later, on 15 August 2025, in Bournemouth’s season opener against Liverpool at Anfield, Semenyo responded to adversity with remarkable poise.

Semenyo was reportedly subjected to racial abuse from a spectator.

He reported the incident to the referee, prompting a brief suspension of play.

Despite the distressing incident, Semenyo produced a powerful response on the pitch, scoring both Bournemouth goals in the 4–2 defeat.

He later took to social media to express his gratitude for the overwhelming support from teammates, opponents, match officials and fans, calling the occasion “a reminder of why I love this sport” and pledging to “keep moving forward, together.”

As reported by BBC, 47-year-old man from Liverpool was later arrested by Merseyside Police on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and is now under investigation, with potential football banning orders being pursued.

The Ghanaian was touted to leave Bournemouth in the summer of 2025, but he opted to sign a new deal with the club, inserting a £65m release clause, which must be activated by the 10th of January, 2026.

Manchester City moved for him that January, beating competition from other top-six sides such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United.
