When he touches the ball — Zidane names most exciting player in football

Zinedine Zidane is a true football royalty and one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.

The former France captain, a mesmerising presence on the pitch and a multi-time Champions League winner as both a player and coach with Real Madrid, has revealed which current stars truly excite him.

At a recent media appearance at the Festival Dello Sport, Zidane was asked to name the players who currently capture his imagination.

He singled out Barcelona superstar, Lamine Yamal, who recently finished second in Ballon d'Or voting, behind PSG's Ousmane Dembele.

The 18-year-old Spaniard has been on a meteoric rise since breaking through at the Camp Nou as a teenager, rapidly transitioning from a relatively unknown player to one of the best in the world.

“Regardless of position, one player who excites me when he touches the ball is Lamine Yamal,” Zidane confessed.

“Against Inter last year in the Champions League at San Siro, he did it all on his own.”

Zidane admitted he loves seeing Yamal in action, while also giving flowers to Paris Saint-Germain duo Vitinha and Joao Neves.

Yamal has enjoyed a blistering start to his career and is the best player on the planet in most people's eyes, but he has a way to go until he matches Zidane's legacy.
