West Ham and Lyon Clash Over Benrahma Transfer Drama

Stephen Oladehinde 12:33 - 02.02.2024

Deadline day took a dramatic turn as Said Benrahma's anticipated move to Lyon fell through, triggering a war of words between the French club and West Ham.

Lyon released a scathing statement, accusing the Premier League side of 'incomprehensible behaviour' and a 'deep lack of respect.' Meanwhile, West Ham defends their position, citing time constraints and challenging negotiations.

Lyon's Explosive Accusations

In a surprising turn of events, Lyon accused West Ham of failing to complete the necessary paperwork for Said Benrahma's transfer, despite the player completing his medical in France on deadline day.

The French club released a statement expressing their frustration as reported by the Mirror.

'In the early evening, when Olympique Lyonnais had entered all the administrative data on FIFA's dedicated platform (FIFA TMS), West Ham had never launched any technical procedure on its part, despite OL's repeated reminders and continuous mutual telephone communication.'

West Ham's Response and Future Proceedings

West Ham, in turn, expressed dissatisfaction with Lyon's reaction, asserting that they simply ran out of time amid challenging negotiations.

The club plans to appeal Lyon's decision, as the French side vows to initiate necessary procedures to validate the operation later. Lyon's statement concluded with a stern warning:

'Olympique Lyonnais deeply regrets this situation and this decision, demonstrating a deep lack of respect on the part of West Ham for the institution and the player.

The club reserves the right to initiate all appropriate procedures necessary to validate the operation later, and to hold West Ham accountable if necessary.'

West Ham faced further frustration on the pitch, settling for a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on deadline day. Manager David Moyes expressed his disappointment, specifically highlighting the team's lack of a left-sided winger.
