Manchester United completed the signing of Mbeumo after several weeks of negotiation with Brentford.
The forward was signed for £65m, with a further £6m in potential add-ons and joined on a five-year deal, agreeing to terms until June 2030 with an option of a further year.
What Mbeumo said
In his first interview as a Red Devil, speaking to club legend Rio Ferdinand, via Abola, Bryan Mbeumo praised Manchester United's Portuguese contingent.
The Cameroonian winger stated he remained calm throughout the weeks of negotiations between Brentford and the Old Trafford club: "I always trust the people around me. We have to be patient and think positive. I was on vacation and just wanted to rest. I was convinced it would happen."
"Manchester United is a huge club. I'm someone who likes challenges. It's a good project and I want to be a part of it," he emphasised, admitting he was drawn in by the Red Devils' plan.
Despite interest from Newcastle and Tottenham, Mbeumo revealed that manager Rúben Amorim made the difference: "We had a very friendly and constructive conversation. He explained the project to me, and we clicked. I spoke with other managers because I wanted to hear all the projects, but Manchester United's was very good."
Mbeumo also highlighted that the advice of his compatriot, Andre Onana, and the desire to play regularly at Old Trafford made the decision to accept Manchester United's offer easier. The Cameroonian international says he's ready for Amorim's tactical system: "In football, we have to adapt and be able to play in various positions. I played more as a winger for Brentford, but I don't have a specific preferred position."
After scoring 20 goals for the Bees last season, Mbeumo aims to continue his scoring streak and hopes to have a special ally to help him do so. The Cameroonian international admitted he's eager to share the pitch with Bruno Fernandes: "Everyone has seen him in recent years. He can shoot, cross, he uses the ball insanely well. As a forward, of course, I appreciate that."
"When you're as intelligent as him, you don't need to think too much. You just have to make the run and he'll find you in space and put you in a good position. Of course, we can talk so he knows how I like to receive the ball," added Mbeumo, anticipating a fruitful partnership with the Portuguese playmaker.
Signed by Manchester United from Brentford for 75 million euros, Bryan Mbeumo revealed an off-field passion: chess. "Even though it's not physical, it involves a lot of thinking. You can see two or three moves ahead because it's a game of strategy. It's not just good, it's great," he admitted.
