Super Eagles forward earns first-ever Goal of the Season nomination for sensational solo effort.
Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has received a nomination for the Ligue 1 Goal of the Season Award, the first in his seven-year career with the French club.
The 29-year-old playmaker has been talismanic for Nantes in recent years, regularly saving them from the drop. He is an assist king in the French top flight, and this season, only the three players sitting on 10 assists have more than his nine.

‘He would thrive in France’ - Ex-Super Eagles coach urges Moses Simon not to leave Nantes
Gernot Rohr, former coach of the Super Eagles, advises Moses Simon to stay in France despite interest from Everton, a Premier League club.
However, it was not the assists he is famed for that bagged him a league nomination this time, but rather a sensational solo strike in the victory against Rennes last December.

Simon's stunning goal
The former Gent winger has scored seven goals for his French club this season. The pick of the bunch is his goal against Rennes, which helped Nantes secure a 1-0 victory.
Moses danced past three defenders before curling the ball around more bodies, including Rennes’ shot-stopper, the usually capable Steve Madanda, to clinch maximum points.
The sensational solo effort has now been nominated for Goal of the Season in the Ligue 1 end-of-season awards. However, he will be competing against other stunning goals from Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, Marseille’s Amine Gouiri, Angers’ Esteban Lepaul, and Strasbourg’s Andrey Santos for the highly coveted prize which rewards difficulty, technique and aesthetic qualities of goals.
Simon is also in the run-in for the Marc-Vivien Foe prize, given to the best African player in Ligue 1. He could be the third Nigerian to win the award, after Vincent Enyeama (2014, Lille) and Victor Osimhen (2020, Lille).
