PSG display dominance leaving it late to hand Barcelona first defeat of the season
Paris Saint-Germain showed why they are champions, beating Barcelona at home with a dominanant performance,
The late winner has been widely attributed to Flick’s surprisingly aggressive, high defensive line in the final moments of the game.
McManaman was direct in his assessment, branding the defeat as "self-inflicted" and warning that Barcelona cannot expect to win the competition with such defensive errors.
“It’s self-inflicted from Barcelona,” he told TNT Sports.
“Why on earth in the last minute of normal time are you playing that high on the halfway line? It baffles me.
”The pundit stressed that the fundamental defensive issues must be resolved for Barcelona to have any chance of European glory.
“If they don’t sort this out they won’t win this competition because you cannot play like this. It’s an awful goal to concede at any level,” he added.
“It’s so late on in the game and they’re taking those chances. Look how high they are, look at the disorganisation.”
