England coach Thomas Tuchel spoke to Marc Guehi after his failed Liverpool move.

England national team coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi is in the right headspace and motivated for this season, despite the disappointment of his failed move to Liverpool.

What Tuchel said

The 25-year-old defender is currently in England's camp for their World Cup qualifier fixtures against Andorra and Serbia.

Tuchel appeared to have spoken to Guehi after the deadline day disappointment, and he confirmed that the former Chelsea Academy star is in good spirits.

"We had a chat with him and he looks absolutely fine," Tuchel said, per Goal. “He looks very impressive on the field. He has a couple of very impressive weeks behind him on the sporting side and the performance side.

“He is the main driver of Crystal Palace’s success. He is the captain and the leader. He played very impressively at the end of last season and at the start of this season. He continued exactly like this in camp, so it was very impressive. He handles it with respect and with grace and with a brilliant attitude."

Marc Guehi’s failed move

Guehi was agonisingly close to securing a dream move to Liverpool but the deal broke down on transfer deadline day.

After a protracted mini transfer saga, at least when compared to Isak's, Liverpool finally reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign Guehi for £35 million. The Reds had also negotiated personal terms with the players and he was set to sign a five-year deal.

However, despite having completed his medical, Palace had to pull the plug on the deal, as their choice replacement, Igor Jesus, made a U-turn to sign for West Ham.

Guehi is in the final year of his contract and has rejected multiple approaches from the Eagles to sign a renewal. He is expected to be available for free next summer, with Liverpool and now, Real Madrid, expected to make a move.
