Troost Ekong reveals what Super Eagles need to beat Rwanda and South Africa
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has called on Nigerians to show full support to the team ahead of their World Cup qualifier clashes against Rwanda and South Africa.
Nigeria’s precarious position
The Super Eagles risk missing consecutive World Cups as they currently lie fourth in their qualifying group, six points behind leaders, South Africa.
While reality is grim, the die is not cast, and Nigeria still have a realistic chance of qualifying. To do so, victories against Rwanda and Bafana Bafana this international break are crucial, and Ekong trusts his team to secure the necessary results.
What Ekong said
The Al Kholood defender was one of the first players to arrive in camp, and the majority of the squad have joined in as they prepare for the first game against the Amavubi Saturday, September 6th, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. He declared their readiness and called on fans to show their support.
“We’re here now, just waiting for the last few players to arrive very shortly. I’m looking forward to having a full house in training tonight,” Ekong told reporters.
“The boys are very focused, and we’re looking forward to the game on Saturday. I want to thank the fans for their support, and I ask them to continue encouraging us—be there in the stadium on Saturday, keep praying for us, and rally with everyone else in Nigeria.
“It’s going to be an important set of games for us, starting on Saturday. We know the gravity of this game, and we’ll remain focused on our preparation, because that’s what will give us confidence for the match.”
As Pulse Sports reported, fans will be able to show their support for the Super Eagles at the stadium, with tickets going for as low as ₦1000 and ₦3000.
