Liverpool and Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has spoken on the key to his trophy-laden journey alongside Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has credited his teammates for success for club and country.

The Argentina international was part of the Albiceleste side that won the World Cup in 2022 and Copa America last year, with Lionel Messi the top performer in the former and Lautaro Martinez the South American nation’s leading player in the latter.

For Liverpool, he has thrived since joining the club for an initial £35 million fee in 2023, with the Reds securing their second Premier League title and 20th English top-flight crown.

Mac Allister lauds teammates for success

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the Argentina midfielder modestly gave his colleagues the credit for winning with club and country.

“I think the secret is my teammates,” said Mac Allister. “I always say that without them this wouldn't be possible and to play with this kind of player is always easier because you can make a mistake and they will be there to solve it.

“They are the main thing and I just try to always help in the way I can.”

Furthermore, April’s Premier League Player of the Month highlighted the similarities and differences between Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp, both of whom have claimed two of the Reds’ Premier League triumphs.

“I think there is difference with the ball and when we are in possession,” noted the Liverpool man. “I think we are more calm and try not to be as direct as we were before and be more patient.

“But the principal ideas are the same. It didn't change much. I think Arne was really smart with that because we have many players that were a long time under Jürgen and it's not easy to change that quick.”

What’s next for Liverpool?

Liverpool welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Sunday in the Reds’ first home game since claiming the title two weeks ago, seeking to respond to the previous round’s 3-1 loss at Chelsea.

The Reds travel to Brighton in the penultimate fixture before Crystal Palace visit Merseyside on the final day.
